Cuba expressed its sympathy for the unfortunate death of Badara Alieu Joof, Vice President of the Gambia, as reported by the authorities of the west African nation on Wednesday, January 19.
Bruno Rodrguez, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, posted a message on Twitter expressing his deepest condolences to the Gambian people and government for the physical loss of their vice president.

He also stressed that he extended those condolences to his friends and family.

For his part, Rubén G. Abelenda, the Ambassador of the largest of the Antilles in that small African nation, wrote in his account on the same social network: We learned of Joof’s passing with great sadness. He was a good friend who we had the privilege of meeting.
The late dignitary was Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology before being appointed number two by President Adama Barrow in 2022.
Since their diplomatic relations began in 1979, Cuba and The Gambia have maintained very positive ties of friendship, solidarity, and collaboration for more than four decades.
