The CAF West Africa Football Union (Wafu) Zone A Ordinary General Assembly was concluded in Banjul on Sunday 30th July 2023 at the African Princess Hotel in Kololi.
The Sub regional football bloc with nine countries were all represented at the Banjul meeting with the exception of Guinea Bissau. The weekend convergence of the authority of football Federations of Wafu Zone A in Banjul is the first under the presidency of Mr Lamin Kaba Bajo since his reigns as Head of the sub regional football bloc at his overwhelming election in 2022.
Addessing delegates today, the WAFU Zone A Boss who is also Chairman of the meeting first recognized the efforts of the founding fathers and past leaderships of the Union while thanking the member countries that took up the responsibility to host Wafu competitions with all its challenges. He described the Zone as the best bloc in terms of competitions and the successes it registered over the years.
Highlighting the achievements under his presidency, Mr Bajo cited the Chan qualifications and schools football within the sub region. “We will continue to collaborate with governments and the CAF leadership as the parent body to follow the regulations and cooperate to implement more successful projects,” he noted
The Assembly challenged Governments to work very hard to ensure the availability of football facilities and make the boys and girls have the grounds to pursue their dreams.
Mr. Bajo said that The Gambia government is very much excited to have this blessing and is looking forward to working closely with CAF and all stakeholders towards the attainment of collaborative successes.
Speaking on behalf of the Gambia Football Federation, General Secretary Lamin M. Jassey said the GFF will not relent in its efforts to attain successes and will continue to support the activities in the zonal union, as an important partner.
The Assembly concluded in unison that the Secretariat that is been temporarily moved to Senegal will now be relocated back to the Gambia for all its operations henceforth. The Assembly further unveiled that the positions of first vice president and Second Vice President both went unopposed and thus President of Liberia Football Association Mr. Mustapha I. Raji was voted 1st Vice President while President of Cape Verde Football Association Mr.Mario Semedo was voted 2nd Vice President.
The Union activity reports that encompasses competitions, audit, finance, capacity building and draft budget 2023/24 for its activities were all presented, deliberated on and eventually approved.
