The Drug Law Enforcement Agency The Gambia (DLEAG), with support from the Police Intervention Unit (PIU), arrested eight individuals over the weekend and seized over 200 bundles of suspected Cannabis sativa, more than a dozen gallons of cannabis seeds, and three unlicensed hunting rifles.
Among those arrested was 35-year-old Abdoulie Sonko, who was found with 13 bags containing 165 bundles of suspected cannabis and 11 gallons of suspected cannabis seeds. Two unlicensed hunting rifles were also recovered from his property.
Additionally, 39-year-old Edrisa Sonko was arrested with nine bundles of suspected cannabis hidden in a blue plastic container. Alagie Jammeh and Modou Sanyang were each arrested with three bundles of suspected cannabis. Desiré Sanyang and Duwa Badjie were detained for jointly possessing eight bags of suspected cannabis. Other individuals arrested included Yusupha Sonko and Nfally Nyassi.
In a separate find, DLEAG operatives also seized one bag containing nine bundles of suspected cannabis and two 20-litre gallons filled with cannabis seeds at a cashew farm.
