
Banjul, 10th June 2025 – The Director General of Immigration, Mr. Ebrima Mboob, and members of the Core Command received Mr. Luís Mayandía, Senior Police Commissioner and Head of the Central Unit Against Immigration Networks and Document Forgery (UCRIF) and other delegates of the Spanish National Police, at the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) Headquarters in Banjul on a courtesy visit.
The visit marked a significant stakeholder engagement aimed at assessing the concluded Phase One of the Common Operational Partnership (COP) Project, an initiative dedicated to combating organized crime, particularly human trafficking and migrant smuggling. The COP Project facilitates collaboration between Gambian law enforcement and international partners to dismantle criminal networks and enhance operational capacities.
During the meeting, Inspector Alkali Jammeh, Lead Investigator of the Migration Management Unit, presented an overview of the successes, challenges, and operational realities of the COP Project. He also shared key recommendations to ensure more effective outcomes in future collaborations.
DG Mboob and the Core Command emphasized critical concerns, expressed mutual interest in deepening cooperation, and advocated for a more inclusive and results-driven partnership to strengthen migration management and border control. The meeting fostered constructive dialogue and a shared assessment of Gambia–Spain bilateral relations.
The GID reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to deploying integrated border management strategies and strengthening its capabilities in migration governance, while continuing its fight against transnational organized crimes, including migrant smuggling.
