The Gambian community is proud to celebrate the outstanding academic achievement of Dr. Momodou S. Sawaneh, a resident of the Bronx, New York, who has successfully attained his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Adler University in Chicago, U.S.A., graduating with an impressive 4.0 GPA.
Dr. Sawaneh’s educational journey is one of resilience, commitment, and excellence. His academic path began at Kerewan Primary School, where he was among the few students to pass the Common Entrance examination conducted by WAEC. He later attended Armitage High School in 1984 and proceeded to G.T.T.I. in 1990 before travelling to the United States in 1992. There, he pursued his higher education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He further advanced his studies with a Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems at Pace University before enrolling at Adler University for his doctorate.
Alongside his academic achievements, Dr. Sawaneh has built an impressive professional career. He has worked as a Technical Support Engineer for the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, a Network Support Engineer for Amalgamated Bank, a Diagnostic Connectivity Engineer for Zoetis, and as a Real Estate Agent for United Real Estate.
His dedication to service has always matched Dr. Sawaneh’s pursuit of knowledge. For over three decades, he has been deeply engaged in community work, impacting lives across the Bronx and beyond. His humanitarian efforts recently earned him a humanitarian award in recognition of his tireless service to African communities and other groups in New York and beyond. Besides being the founder of the Gambian Youth Organization (GYO), he led various community boards, community organizations, and the African Day Parade in NYC for five consecutive years.
Dr. Sawaneh’s story is a true testament to the power of education, perseverance, and community service. His journey continues to inspire young Gambians, Africans, and people around the globe to pursue academic excellence and give back to their communities.
