The Director General of the Gambia Tourism Board, Abubacarr S. Camara, on Thursday night contacted Kerr Fatou to clarify remarks he said were being misrepresented and circulated widely on social media.
According to Mr. Camara, his testimony before lawmakers earlier in the day was misconstrued to suggest that land allocated to Blue Ocean Properties formed part of assets seized from former President Yahya Jammeh. He insisted that he made no such claim.
Mr. Camara said the issue arose after a question from the National Assembly Member for Jeshwang, who asked him to identify the current owner of Blue Ocean Properties. In response, he told lawmakers that Blue Ocean is owned by Abubacarr Bensouda, brother of Mayor Bensouda
Speaking to Kerr Fatou, the GTBoard chief emphasized that the plot in question lies within the Tourism Development Area and never in his testimony said Blue Ocean land form part of former President Jammeh’s properties.” He added that the land was allocated to Blue Ocean Properties before his tenure as DG in accordance with established procedures as per the records and it was a surprise to him that like with other allocations in the TDA the said land falls within the Tanji River Side plot that is said to be leased to the Former President.
Mr. Camara said he issued the clarification to ensure the public was not misled by viral social media interpretations of his testimony.
