His Excellency President Adama Barrow launched the West Africa Coastal Areas (WACA) Resilience Investment Project, a $45 million initiative aimed at addressing flooding and pollution in the Kotu Stream areas.
Five million Dollars of the project funds will support 4,000 beneficiaries of thr WACA Project Livelihoods Programme over a two-year period. The first phase will provide $1.6 million support to 1,500 beneficiaries, targeting individual enterprises, livelihood groups, and organisations along the Kotu Stream.
Persons with disability, women and youths will be prioritised to build sustainable livelihoods in urban agriculture, tie-dye production, waste management, social enterprises, and other high-impact industries.
President Barrow emphasised that building resilience requires investing in infrastructure and services that protect lives and dignity. “This initiative is rooted in my government’s social protection system, ensuring every Gambian has a fair chance in life,” he said.
The programme aligns with the government’s vision for inclusive national development, aiming to uplift thousands of vulnerable Gambians.
