Chairman Yankuba Yanks Darboe warns that the UDP continues to monitor the ongoing supplementary voter registrations as IEC reportedly handed over one Nigerian man to the Latriya Police Station on Friday.
”The question that lingers, is that, is this a new posture of the IEC or such actions are only taken against Nigerians?!
It is important to remind the IEC that they have a duty under Section 13(3) of the Election Act 1996 to register only applicants, who provides valid Gambian documents, specified under section 13(2) of the same Election Act.”
”Validity under that section of the law, does not only apply to date of the document, but the authenticity of the document, and the bearer of the document must also be 18 years of age.
Thus, the IEC must apply such actions across the board against all ineligible applicants attempting to register into our electoral roll!”
