The Gambia has taken over the presidency of the Council of Ministers and the chairmanship of the Committee of Ambassadors of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) for a six-month term ending 31 July 2026. The handover took place on 2 February 2026 in Brussels.
Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Seedy KM Keita will chair the Council of Ministers, while The Gambia’s Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, Pa Musa Jobarteh, will lead the Committee of Ambassadors.
Founded in 1975, the OACPS brings together 79 member states from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific to promote sustainable development and improve the socio-economic and political wellbeing of their populations.
During its tenure, The Gambia plans to prioritise governance reforms, boost confidence among member states, advance implementation of the Samoa Agreement with the European Union, and ensure strong participation at the 11th OACPS Summit scheduled for March 2026 in Equatorial Guinea.
