Former National Intelligence Agency director general Yankuba Badjie has appeared before The Gambia’s Court of Appeal to challenge a death sentence imposed over his role in the 2016 killing of political activist Solo Sandeng.
Badjie is appealing a 13 July 2022 High Court ruling by Justice Kumba Sillah, which convicted him of murder and related offences committed while Sandeng was in state custody.
At Monday’s hearing, Badjie was represented by lawyer Christopher Mane. No state counsel appeared, despite the Ministry of Justice having been served with a hearing notice.
