Hon. Seedy S.K. Njie, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of The Gambia, has been awarded the Africa Distinguished Young Achiever Award of Excellence by the All-Africa Students’ Union (AASU) in recognition of his contribution to legislative reform, education and youth empowerment.
The award was presented on Thursday during a working visit to The Gambia by the President of AASU, Osisiogu Osikenyi E.. He was accompanied by Amadou B. Jobarteh, Secretary for Press and Information of AASU, alongside student representatives from the University of The Gambia and the University of Education in The Gambia.
The presentation was attended by several Honourable Members of the National Assembly, including the Majority Leader, who joined in witnessing the continental recognition accorded to the Deputy Speaker.
In his remarks, AASU President Osikenyi said the award was a reflection of Hon. Njie’s leadership in advancing access to quality education, strengthening teacher training, promoting digital integration and supporting key legislative reforms.
“Rt. Hon. Seedy S.K. Njie’s achievements and strides as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of The Gambia, you have driven initiatives to improve access to quality education, eliminate barriers, and enhance teacher training programs; led efforts to integrate digital tools, enact the Information and Communications (Amendment) Act, and establish the National Computer Security and Incident Response Team (CSIRT); emphasized the need for robust laws, media literacy, and institutional readiness to counter information warfare and cyber threats; are a testament to your dedication to God, The Gambia and Humanity. Your work has not only impacted The Gambia but has also inspired and motivated young Africans across the continent”.
Receiving the award, Hon. Njie expressed appreciation to AASU for the honour, describing it as recognition not of personal ambition but of collective service. He reaffirmed that his legislative work has consistently been guided by the objective of improving lives, strengthening governance frameworks and expanding opportunities for young people. He added that the recognition would further strengthen his resolve to pursue reforms that advance education, digital transformation and youth empowerment.
The Deputy Speaker reiterated his commitment to continued collaboration with colleagues in the National Assembly, development partners and continental bodies such as AASU in promoting good governance and inclusive development.
The Africa Distinguished Young Achiever Award of Excellence is conferred by AASU upon young Africans who demonstrate exemplary leadership and commitment to the continent’s development, particularly in the areas of education, governance, technology and community advancement.
