In a landmark celebration of progress in maritime administration, the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa (MOWCA) on Friday celebrates its 50th anniversary at the Sir Dawda Kairaba International Conference Center in Bijilo, marking five decades of cooperation, resilience, and shared maritime advancement.
The event was attended by Vice President Muhammed BS. Jallow, Transport Minister, Ebrima Sillah, Attorney General, Dawda Jallow, and other stakeholders from West and Central Africa.
In his address to the stakeholders, Vice President Jallow, reaffirmed Gambia’s commitment to modern maritime development, citing the modernization of the Port of Banjul and the construction of a new deep-sea port at Sanyang as examples.
While Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah assured that Gambia’s tenure as Chair will prioritize digitalization, environmental protection, port efficiency, and sustainable financing.
The Gambia has assumed Chairmanship for the first time since the establishment of the organization in 1975.
The celebration marked member states’ commitment to stronger maritime governance, anchored on service and vision.
