Ousman A. Marong, the General Manager (GM), of Vibes FM Digital Radio, is among 14th West African journalists selected for the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ ), training. Marong, is expected to participate in “RUSH with AI: Strengthening Your Radio and Audio Stories Beyond First Air,” an investigative journalism training equipping him with AI skills to boost investigative reporting.
The astute journalist expressed gratitude, citing Wole Soyinka’s influence since school days. “Indeed hard work always pays. I am more than glad to have been selected to participate in the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ),” he said. Soyinka, is someone I have admired since my junior school days and he together with Ngugi Thiong’o are my favourite prolific African writer of all time. One of my favourite books by Soyinka is Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest People on Earth, Ake: The Years of Childhood while my favourite books by Ngugi Wa Thiong’o are Weep Not, Child. I thank my brother and former Editor-in-Chief Mr. Baboucarr Ceesay, for forcing me to read books of the African Writers Series,” Marong concluded.
The WSCIJ, founded in 2005, promotes investigative journalism, exposing corruption and human rights abuses. The initiative started as the Wole Soyinka Investigative Reporting Award (WSIRA) and evolved into WSCIJ in 2008 to encompass broader activities fostering investigative journalism values.
