China and The Gambia marked the 10th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations with renewed commitments to expand cooperation in development, trade, and infrastructure.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a message delivered by Ambassador Lui Jin in Banjul, reaffirmed China’s support for The Gambia and announced plans for future projects, including the construction of a new power plant. This reflects continued Chinese involvement in the country’s infrastructure development.

President Adama Barrow welcomed the partnership, describing it as mutually beneficial. He also encouraged expanded access for Gambian groundnut exports to the Chinese market.
Energy cooperation was a central focus, with The Gambia highlighting plans for increased domestic power generation, including solar energy projects to support industrial growth.

The Gambian government also reaffirmed its commitment to the One China policy. Ongoing cooperation was noted in areas such as healthcare support, agricultural development, medical supplies, and institutional capacity building, including training at the Foreign Service Academy.
