President Barrow Meets US Embassy and AU Sahel Delegation, Champions Dialogue, and Regional Peace

Key takeaways from the meeting:

✅ Stronger cooperation on migration, business, transitional justice, and support through the IMF & World Bank.

✅ Decades of friendship: President Barrow thanked the US for decades of Peace Corps support in health and education across Gambian communities.

✅ Justice for victims: He called for timely US support to The Gambia’s Transitional Justice programme to deliver reparations.

✅ Open for business: President Barrow welcomed American investment under a transparent, rules-based system that protects both interests.

On global peace & the economy:
As OIC Chairman, President Barrow is engaging regional leaders to ease Middle East tensions that are driving up fuel and food prices for vulnerable countries like The Gambia. “I believe that every problem has a solution, and through dialogue we can end wars and promote peace,” he said.

On migration & elections:
Despite limited resources, Government is creating opportunities for youth. “More Gambians in the diaspora now want to return home to build,” President Barrow noted. He also assured the public of peaceful, transparent elections in 2026: “Gambians will decide.”

On the Sahel:
President Barrow congratulated the AU delegation for bringing stakeholders from Africa and Europe together in Banjul. The Gambia recently made history by hosting the first workshop to unite the Alliance of Sahel States, ECOWAS, and international partners at one table to tackle regional challenges.
