On Monday, 19 October 2026, the Gambia Immigration Department (GID), through its Border Patrol Unit in collaboration with the Migration Management Unit stationed in Tanji and with support from partners of the COP II Project, conducted nightlong patrols across the coastline in the West Coast Region.

The operations led to the successful disruption and interception of forty-six (46) suspected irregular migrants. Of these, twenty-two (22) were intercepted at Batokunku and twenty-four (24) at Brufut. One suspected migrant smuggler was apprehended during the operation and is currently assisting with investigations.

The intercepted group comprises twenty-three (23) Gambians, twenty-two (22) Senegalese, and one (1) Guinean national, consisting of forty (40) males, four (4) females, and two (2) minors.

The Gambian Immigration Department remains committed to protecting lives; this operation underscores the Departmentโ€™s dedication to deterring youths from venturing into irregular migration while encouraging safer, orderly, and regular migration pathways.
