Mediations are currently taking place to restore calm in the country after the postponement of the presidential election. Two mediators who are at the centre of the negotiations have spoken about the ongoing talks. Underground negotiations are reportedly taking place intending to reconcile the positions between Macky Sall and Ousmane Sonko.

According to Rfm, the shadow mediators have managed to change positions, and a strong act from the president is expected in the coming days with the release of all political detainees before the start of the dialogue. Alioune Tine, one of the mediators, believes President Sall is willing to do what it takes to ensure the country is reconciled. He used the notion of reconciliation and was willing to take any necessary steps to achieve it.

The first lady, Marième Faye Sall, is said to have played an important role in bringing the positions closer together, along with other shadow facilitators. Another mediator, Pierre Goudiaby Atépa, clarified that it is more about consultations than dialogue. He emphasized the need for consultations, travelling to meet each other, and bringing peace through appeasement towards a solution. With tensions caused by the postponement of the presidential election, mediations are underway to restore calm to the country.

Mediations are ongoing to restore calm in the country following the postponement of the presidential election. Two mediators at the centre of the negotiations have spoken out. The current period is marked by underground negotiations, which are reportedly aimed at reconciling the positions between Macky Sall and Ousmane Sonko. Alioune Tine, one of the mediators, believes President Sall is ready to do what it takes to guarantee his interest in leaving behind a reconciled country. He used the notion of reconciliation and is willing to do what is necessary to achieve that. And two mediators who are at the heart of the negotiations spoke out.

This is the period of underground negotiations. Indeed, mediations are reportedly underway, as part of the process of dialogue and appeasement, in particular to reconcile the positions between Macky Sall and Ousmane Sonko.

And according to the Rfm, the shadow mediators would have succeeded in changing positions. A strong act from the president is even expected in the coming days with the release of all political detainees, before the start of the dialogue.

“I think he’s ready to do his best. He will take all the necessary measures to guarantee him first, because it is in his interest, to exit through the front door leaving a reconciled country. He used the notion of reconciliation, he is available to leave a country reconciled. We are working on that,” Alioune Tine told Rfm.

Marième Faye Sall, the first lady too, would have played an important role in bringing the positions closer together, just like other shadow facilitators, according to another mediator. Pierre Goudiaby Atépa, since it is he who is in question, specifies that it is rather a question of consultations, and not of dialogue.

“We shouldn’t even talk about dialogue because we saw what the dialogues brought. I’m talking more about consultations. Let us consult, let us go see each other, let us travel. Many people of good will do their work, and may they bring peace. The appeasement which will bring us towards the solution,” he said on the airwaves of Rfm.
