The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad is pleased to announce the successful completion of a Diplomatic Training Programme for Foreign Service Officers in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, from
8th to 21st May 2026.
The seminar, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and organized by the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), brought together thirty-five (35) Foreign Service Officials from the Ministry, including staff at headquarters and diplomats serving in various Gambian Diplomatic Missions abroad.
The two-week programme focused on diplomacy, governance, international relations, public diplomacy, diplomatic negotiation, international law, and China’s development experience. Participants also took part in practical negotiation and simulation exercises aimed at strengthening strategic communication, teamwork, leadership, and consensus-building skills.
The programme provided valuable exposure to China’s modernization efforts, governance model, Belt and Road Initiative cooperation, and South-South partnerships.
This initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader objective of continuously building the capacity and professional competence of Gambian diplomats and Foreign Service Officials, both at headquarters and in the country’s diplomatic missions abroad, in order to effectively advance The Gambia’s foreign policy and national development priorities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad expresses sincere appreciation to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its continued collaboration and support to The Gambia, particularly in strengthening the institutional and human resource capacity of the Ministry through diplomatic training, human capacity development, and international cooperation initiatives.
The successful completion of the programme further reaffirms the strong and growing bilateral relations, mutual cooperation, and longstanding friendship between The Gambia and China.
