President Barrow Presides Over Commissioning of Home-Trained Armed Forces Officer Cadets

His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), today presided over the commissioning of Officer Cadets of ‘GAF Course 01’ at the McCathy Square in Banjul.

This historic occasion marks a significant milestone of producing the first ever home-trained Officer Cadets. For years, The Gambia relied on international partners to train its officers abroad to meet professional standards.

In his remarks, President Barrow highlighted that this initiative will reinforce the ethos and core values aligned with national objectives, while laying the foundation for the much-anticipated military academy in the country.

He further congratulated the newly commissioned officers, urging them to uphold the highest standards of citizenship, professionalism, discipline, and integrity. He encouraged them to lead with compassion and to embrace modern technologies and innovations to strengthen the capabilities of their respective units.

President Barrow also noted that since assuming office, his government has considerably invested in enhancing the administration and operations of the security services, creating opportunities for GAF personnel through degree programmes both at home and abroad.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to continuous capacity building, infrastructural development, and improving the welfare of citizens in uniform.

This event was followed by the presentation of parchments to the newly-commissioned officers and the administration of the oaths at the State House.
