State House, Banjul, 22nd March 2023: President Barrow has called for the United Arab Emirates Investors to invest in light industries in The Gambia during an audience with the Emirati Minister of State for African Affairs, H.E. Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, on Wednesday morning at the State House in Banjul.
The President informed the Emirati Prince that his government is keen on partnering with UAE in several areas, including tourism and health, noting that several Gambians engage in health tourism for treatment abroad. The President took pride in the Sheikh Zayed Eye clinic in The Gambia, which provides services beyond the borders while appealing to the UAE for its expansion and upgrading with modern equipment.
H.E Nahyan, in conveying the regards of the President of UAE to President Barrow and the Gambian people, said the UAE and The Gambia relation had been built on solid ground, and his visit is a continuation of the common interest in the partnership and close relation between the two brotherly nations.
He further revealed that other areas of mutual interest are agriculture and digitalisation, and they would assess and explore those opportunities in the country. He added that The Gambia is well situated for investment in a peaceful environment and has a youthful population to fill the gap in the labour market doubled with an independent judiciary to protect investments
The two leaders also reassured each other of the conviction to enhance and improve the partnership. President Barrow took the opportunity to thank H.E Nahyan for the prompt action taken to support the return of some Gambians stranded in the UAE following their meeting in New York in September 2022.
