The Supreme Court has delivered a landmark ruling in favour of the Kanifing Municipal Authority (KMC) against the Ministry of Lands and the Inspector General of Police. The Court declared the actions of the Ministry and Police unconstitutional, citing their forceful entry into KMC premises, office break-ins, deployment of armed officers, and attempts to install Sainabou Martin Sonko as CEO while she was on administrative leave without proper authority.
This judgment underscores KMC’s autonomy in managing its internal affairs, including staff appointments, and firmly condemns external interference with the Local Government Service Commission. The ruling reaffirms KMC’s independence from undue political or administrative influence.
