The Unite Movement for Change (UMC) has condemned a series of “disrespectful and inflammatory” social media posts targeting Kanifing Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda and mocking both Christian and Muslim religious traditions.
The posts, circulated by an account named Gaia’s Child, digitally depict Mayor Bensouda dressed as a Christian cardinal and, in another image, show him “praying on water” in a manner meant to imitate the revered moment when Serigne Touba prayed in the sea — an act held sacred by the Mouride community.
UMC described the images as “highly insensitive”, saying they belittle Christian symbolism and disrespect the spiritual legacy of Serigne Touba and his followers.
