The Gambia Police Force has reported that Basse Police Intervention Unit (PIU), working alongside joint security forces, has intercepted a Senegalese national in possession of a substantial amount of suspected counterfeit United States currency at the Yerobawol Checkpoint.
The arrest took place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, during a routine search operation. The suspect, identified as Sadia Ndome, 38, from Maleme, Senegal, was traveling on a motorbike without a registration plate from Basse towards Senegal.
Upon inspection, officers discovered suspected counterfeit notes amounting to USD 467,000, along with a bag containing clothing.
Ndome is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have assured the public that a thorough inquiry will be conducted, and updates will be provided as significant developments emerge.
