MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER STABBING WIFE 22 TIMES IN EDINBURGH HOME
A man who murdered his wife in a frenzied knife attack while four children were inside the family home has been jailed for life.
Momodou Bobb, 56, repeatedly stabbed his wife, Ndata Bobb, at their flat in Restalrig Avenue, Edinburgh, during the night of 27 to 28 August 2025.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard the 42-year-old victim suffered at least 22 stab wounds during the brutal assault, including a devastating neck wound which severed her jugular vein.
Bobb later claimed that he and his wife had been fighting and that the knife had “slipped” while he was holding it.
He admitted murdering his wife and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years and eight months.
The court heard Ndata Bobb had previously worked in banking and had moved from her native Gambia to England in 2018 to live with her husband after they married in 2015.
The couple later moved with their children to Edinburgh in December 2023.
During the early hours of 28 August last year, emergency services received a 999 call reporting a fight at the address.
When police officers arrived at the property, Bobb opened the front door wearing only boxer shorts with blood visible on his hands, chest and feet.
Prosecutors said he appeared calm and largely emotionless as he silently gestured officers into the flat.
Inside the living room, officers found Ndata Bobb lying face down on the floor surrounded by blood, suffering multiple wounds to her face, neck, chest and arms.
Two bloodstained knives were later recovered from a kitchen table inside the property.
Police and paramedics attempted to save the victim’s life before she was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, but she later died from her injuries.
One witness reported hearing Mrs Bobb screaming “Leave me alone” shortly before the attack ended.
The court also heard Bobb himself suffered injuries to his hand and later made comments while receiving treatment in hospital suggesting the stabbing happened during a fight.
A post-mortem examination concluded the fatal injury was a seven-centimetre deep stab wound to the neck which cut through the jugular vein.
The case has once again highlighted concerns surrounding domestic violence and fatal attacks occurring inside family homes in front of children.
Do you think tougher intervention measures are needed in suspected domestic abuse cases before violence escalates to murder?
