The GFF First Division League #Baluwo official Partner 2022/2023 Season climaxed to an intriguing end today with Real De Banjul winning the title on goal difference while defending champions Hawks FC got relegated to the second tier in a thrilling afternoon that brought down the curtains on a hugely successful season.

It was Waa Banjul that held the newly crowned champions to a goalless draw that saw Real ending their nine-year wait for a league trophy while Waa Banjul guaranteed themselves a place in next year’s First Division League championship.

Elsewhere, Falcons wrapped up the curtains on a very successful season with a 2-4 away defeat of Steve Biko in Bakau. Adama Bojang and Yankuba Touray scored for the home side while Adama Jammeh, Buba Camara, and Fakebba Jammeh with a double did the damage for the Blue Army as they finished runners-up to Real De Banjul with both sides finishing on 52 points each but Real earning a superior +5 goal difference.

Brikama United came from behind to record a 2-1 victory over Fortune in a derby played in Brikama. Alieu Barry opened the scoring for the Petroleum boys to cap off a spectacular season. Mustapha Drammeh scored his 20th goal of the season before Lamin Sambou saved the points for the home side. The petroleum boys, however, finished on 3rd with 48 points while Brikama secured 4th with 46 points.

Greater Tomorrow beat last year’s champions Hawks 2-1 to win the relegation battle and thus sending Hawks to the second tier. Modou Saidy scored the most important two goals of his young career to secure a place in next season’s League competition while Lamin Bojang’s solo strike was not enough for the Reds.

Meanwhile, Omar Joof and Modou Colley scored for Gamtel as they beat Team Rhino 1-2 to take the playoff spot. Modou Lamin Nyassi scored the consolation for Team Rhino, who finished 8th with 40 points.

As League Champions Real De Banjul received a cheque amounting to D1000;000:00 ( One Million Dalasis) the first club to earn such a League reward from the GFF whilst Vice Champions Falcons also received a cheque amounting to D500,000:00 ( Five Hundred Thousand Dalasis).

The presentation of the prize money, trophy, and medals was administered by GFF’s Second Vice President Mr. Ebou Faye accompanied by GFF’s Executive Committee Members.
