UDP NAMS introduce 3 private member bills

United Democratic Party caucus wishes to inform the general public that in a historic event, members of our party have introduced 3 private member bills.

The Rent (Amendment) Bill, 2023
(By Hon. Madi MK Ceesay – Member for Serrekunda West).
The bill seeks to amend the country’s rent act, The proposed amendments to the Rent Act 2014 include provisions addressing the landlord’s responsibility to maintain habitable rental premises and the requirement for the landlord’s consent before a tenant sublets rental premises. Additionally, the bill seeks to specify rate intervals and conditions for rent increases, among other related matters.

Local Government (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2023
(By Hon. Yahya Sanyang – Member for Latrikunda Sabiji).
The bill seeks to to further amend the Local Government Act, to delete the provision that prevents selected members and nominated members of a Council from voting at Council meetings and connected matters. Considering that nominated members represent great sections of our society, like women, youth, the business community, and many more.

Public Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023
(By Hon. Sulayman Saho – Member for Central Baddibu).
The bill seeks to amend the Public Order Act to allow citizens to notify instead of seeking approval from the police to hold public processions. NAM Saho, who is also the party’s whip in the house, wants the Act amended to prevent the police from determining and issuing warrants for citizens to protest peacefully, and to remove any ambiguities that can inform abuse or violation of citizens’ rights.
