Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, Speaker of the National Assembly and President of the CPA Africa Region, led The Gambia’s delegation to the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Sydney, Australia, from November 3-8, 2024. The conference brought together over 700 parliamentarians and decision-makers from across the Commonwealth to discuss critical global issues and strengthen parliamentary democracy.
Hon. Jatta highlighted the conference’s importance as an opportunity for professional development, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among Commonwealth Parliaments. He emphasized that the event helps Members learn best practices and engage with leading international organizations.
The Gambia’s delegation, including Hon. Ebrima Jaiteh and Hon. Fatou K. Jawara, actively participated in workshops, sharing the country’s perspectives on key topics such as MP security, gender-sensitive legislation, and the importance of public engagement in parliamentary processes.
The conference also saw the election of Hon. Dr. Christopher Kalila, MP from Zambia, as the new Chairperson of the CPA Executive Committee.
