Saudi Arabia executed two Bangladeshi nationals in the Mecca region, with claims that they were a married couple put to death for a forehead kiss. The exact details of the sexual misconduct remain unverified by Saudi officials at this time, but according to an official statement from the Saudi Ministry of Interior carried by the Saudi Press Agency, two Bangladeshi citizensโNazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtarโwere executed on October 14, 2026.
They were convicted of committing what authorities officially characterised as an “immoral, indecent, or sexual act” that violated the sanctity of a mosque in Mecca. Under Sharia Law, any forms of public affection are illegal.
Viral posts and online rumours claim the two individuals were newlyweds on their honeymoon who were sentenced to death simply for sharing a forehead kiss as a gesture of gratitude.
According to investigations by the Saudi Ministry of Interior, Nazrul Islam Basir and Siti Akhtar, sexual partners from Bangladesh, had no evidence to prove they were lawfully married.
In Islam, unlawful sexual activity is prohibited, especially in the holy city of Mecca, and committing such an act inside a mosque further aggravates the offence because it violates the sanctity of the house of Allah.
Contrary to claims that they were married, the investigation found no evidence to support it. As a result, they were prosecuted, convicted and sentenced to death under *ta’zir*, a discretionary punishment under Islamic law.
